Description

Experience Launceston’s historic waterway from a different perspective on a guided Hobie pedal-kayak tour. These family-friendly kayaks are powered by your feet, so you can move through the water with ease while steering with a hand lever beside your seat. The design makes the experience approachable for beginners and leaves your hands mostly free to take photos, enjoy the scenery, or simply relax as you glide along the river. After a safety briefing and fitting of your personal flotation device, set off onto the water for approximately 90 minutes of gentle exploration. Begin on the North Esk River and pass the Old Launceston Seaport complex and marina, with open views back toward the city. As you continue toward the Tamar River, your guide introduces you to the character of Launceston’s waterfront and the surrounding river landscape. The route then takes you under Kings Bridge and into the lower reaches of the South Esk River, where the water flows past striking dolerite cliffs after descending from Cataract Gorge. Depending on conditions, you may continue exploring sections of the Tamar or North Esk before returning to the Seaport. The experience finishes back at the Seaport.
