Description
Meet at the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre (20 Davey Street) at your booked time. The tour begins with a scenic drive through historic Hobart, passing South Hobart where Mt Wellington dominates the skyline and the Cascade Brewery, established in 1824, with accompanying local stories.
Continue through tall Eucalyptus forests and the town of Fern Tree, known for its cool temperate gardens occasionally dusted with snow, before reaching The Springs with a brief view of Bruny Island. The route passes The Chalet, a rustic dolerite bluestone shelter, alongside snow gums, flowering banksia trees, a waterfall, and panoramic views of Hobart.
Your guide David, trained in botany, geology, and water resources, shares detailed knowledge and personal stories about this unique mountain environment. The drive ascends above the tree line to the summit at 1,270m (4,180ft), also called The Pinnacle, offering views of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.
At the summit, enjoy 30 minutes of free time to explore alpine vegetation, distinct rock formations, and views from Hobart and South West Wilderness platforms.
