East Coast Cruises
Tasmania
Maria Island's uniqueness is recognised with the island being protected as a national park. As well as operating a ferry service to the island where you can explore at your leisure, East Coast Cruises operate a full day cruise where you get to explore the coastline and spend time ashore.
Maria Island lies 15km off Tasmania's east coast. Ferries depart from The Esplanade in Triabunna which is adjacent to the Triabunna Visitor Information Centre. Triabunna is approximately 75 minute drive from Hobart.
East Coast Cruises are excited to be operating their newly refurbished ferry Encounter. With their 'One Day on Maria' tour you are able to see the best Maria Island has to offer from the sea and the island itself. Wonder at the sea caves big enough for the boat to enter, spring-fed waterfalls which emerge partway up a cliff and the amazing Fossil Cliffs and Painted Cliffs. There is also the marine life to look out for, who knows what you will see!
You will have time to explore the UNESCO world heritage listed Darlington convict settlement, with its well preserved historical buildings. Darlington operated as a convict penal settlement and later as a convict probation station. You can take a short walk to the beautiful Painted Cliffs or relax on one of the unspoilt, uncrowded beaches.
On your day out you will learn about the wildlife and local history whist being provided with tea and coffee and rocky road chocolate! You will need to bring your own lunch to enjoy at the stop on Reidle Bay. The national park entry fee is covered in the tour price.
Tour departs Triabunna wharf at 10.30am and returns 4.30pm.
The ferry service operates daily during the summer season (November - April) and four days per week during the winter season (May-October).
As well as the M.V Encounter which holds up to 30 passengers, East Coast Cruises also operate the M.V Liquid Fever (11 passengers max.) Both vessels take just 30 minutes to reach Maria Island.
