Tasmania
At a glance
BIG4 Kelso Sands Holiday and Native Wildlife Park is a nature-focused holiday park at Kelso, beside the Tamar Valley in northern Tasmania. Set across 36 acres of bushland with river and beach frontage, the park offers a quiet base for families, couples and outdoor travellers seeking time near native wildlife and open spaces.
Accommodation includes self-contained cabins as well as powered and unpowered camping sites. The range suits different styles of stay, from caravan and tent holidays to cabin breaks with more indoor comfort. The atmosphere is relaxed and outdoors-oriented, with natural surroundings, grassy areas and the sounds of native birds forming part of the setting.
Wildlife spotting is part of the park experience. Wallabies, possums and birdlife may be seen around the property, particularly during quieter parts of the day. Nature walks within the grounds provide an easy way to explore the setting, while the river and beach frontage offers space for walking, fishing and relaxing beside the water.
Family facilities include a seasonal solar-heated outdoor pool, a playground with swings and a sandpit, and a games area with a volleyball court, soccer goals, basketball hoop and open lawn. Pedal go-karts are available for hire. These facilities give younger visitors plenty of space for active play, while the surrounding bushland provides a calmer backdrop for families travelling together.
Meals are suited to a self-catering holiday. A camp kitchen operates throughout the year, with covered outdoor space for preparing food or sharing a meal. BBQ areas and open grassy grounds also support casual outdoor dining and picnics. The park is not presented as a restaurant destination, but as a practical base where meals can be prepared during a regional stay.
Beyond the park, nearby Greens Beach and Narawntapu National Park provide options for coastal walks, wildlife viewing and outdoor exploration. Beauty Point and Beaconsfield are also within reach, with local attractions including opportunities to look for platypus and seahorses. The park is located just under an hour from Launceston, making it suitable for exploring the Tamar Valley while returning to a quieter riverside setting. Pets are not permitted.
